Social conditions
What was the social conditions during Jack the Ripper?
Jack the Ripper wasn't a normal person, in my opinion. He was more of a anti-social person and he lived in Whitechapel for a long time which makes him very familiar with the area. The social conditions of Whitechapel area were very bad. Firstly it was a poverty striken area with around 5000 people living there which causes overpopulation. Conditions were filthy and unhygienic and there were regular fights between the people living there and frequently lots of arguements broke out between them. Life was basically very hard for everyone.
The streets were muddy, and people were grimy. Sickness was common, and medical care was scarce. People worked for money, not pleasure, and few had proper schooling. Prostitution was coomon for mothers or single women who needed money, but already had a day job.
